What we do
About this member
Our cooperation with Adeo began in 2008.
We helped Adeo ensure that its tropical wood came from legal sources. In 2008 Adeo was sourcing a part of its tropical wood from FSC sources and was in parallel supporting the forest programmes of several communities in Indonesia by procuring TFT accredited wood. This support helped the communities bring certified wood onto the international market.
Since 2013 TFT has been supporting ADEO in the implementation of its Due Diligence System, ensuring compliance with European Law (European Union Timber Regulation). This system guarantees the legality of the wood imported and sold by Adeo. Adeo and TFT developed a strong system with conditions going beyond the European law.
In 2014 and 2015 ADEO started working on defining its Timber policy with the support of TFT. Several meetings with buyers from all the business units were organized to share the goals and understand each country’s challenges. The timber policy was finalized and shared all around the world with the different business units.
Since 2016 Adeo has supported the business units, buyers and quality department in collecting all the data about the timber used, its origin and its level of compliance with its timber policy.
By the end of 2016 we can say that 70 % is in line with the expectations laid out in the timber policy. Some work remains to be done in specific countries such as Russia and Brazil but we are in the middle of our journey (goal 2020) having already made good progress.
In 2017 TFT will help Adeo go beyond certification by assessing some wood sources in China where the certified wood for mdf products is barely available. Through this work we will be able to explain Adeo’s expectation to Chinese suppliers and to assess the level of compliance for the main wood sources.
In parallel we will continue our work on the European Union Timber Regulation and continue regular meetings/training with procurement teams regarding the issues and challenges in the timber industry. In case of alerts from NGOs we will inform Adeo and support them by taking action to solve any problems raised by the NGOs.
