How we work with Colgate-Palmolive on Palm Oil
For the first year of Colgate membership, TFT and Colgate are focused on mapping Colgate’s palm oil and palm kernel supply chains to the mill level. As a brand, Colgate is several tiers removed from the origin countries of its palm supply; obtaining traceability data requires cooperation with its direct suppliers, as well as second and third tier suppliers. Through this cooperation, Colgate will request traceability information and also communicate the requirements of its policy to the suppliers at each tier.
During the current project year, Colgate will gain visibility into its supply chain. Subsequently, the company will begin to support transformation activities with mills within its supply chain. TFT and Colgate will decide together which mills to engage. The decision will take into account the results of due diligence research on the mills in Colgate’s supply chain, in which higher priority mills will be identified. Transformation activities will begin by the end of the first year of membership.
Colgate is also working to identify the amount of palm derived oleochemical ingredients in its products, and which suppliers provide it those ingredients. Once Colgate has this information, TFT will help Colgate determine an action plan to engage its palm oil derivatives suppliers to achieve traceability and begin discussions about meeting Colgate’s policy requirements.
