50% MdM Furniture now considered responsible
What we do
How we work with Maisons Du Monde on Wood
In 2010, Maisons du Monde (MdM) created a new role within their organisation for someone to oversee the social and environmental impacts of their products. This led to the partnership of MdM and TFT. Since then we have been working with MdM toward more responsibility within their supply chains. It was sometimes an easy path, sometimes a painful way but all this time we always talked frankly to try to solve the problems that may appear on the way.
At the start of the partnership the main focus was to gain supply chain transparency and visibility of the wood species in order to understand where improvements needed to be made. The second step is to assess the Health and Safety conditions at the factories level.
We also support them in achieving compliance with the EUTR (European Timber Regulation) and we conduct assessments of wood sources to check their level of legality
Maisons du Monde are determined to increase the number of their sources who supply responsible wood (more than 60% of these sources already supply responsible wood in 2017). At the beginning of 2017 we introduced 3 new Indian suppliers to follow the scope of WCS. We are also now conducting quarterly Health and Safety assessments with 6 different suppliers. In 2017 we will continue to promote QR codes and the WCS approach on MDM’s website and ,if possible, create an event dedicated to the traceability work done in India
MdM launched its first CSR report in 2015 (link). This report gives a complete overview of the situation at Maisons du Monde for all the environmental issues on their products. MdM also issued some movies on the projects and work in India. Click to view a short video.
* This represents more than 50% of the overall offer.
**Regarding the rest of the references, Maisons du Monde reduces the risk of illegal timber through a robust DDS system, compliant with the European Union Timber Regulation . Each suppliers and each wood sources are checked every year by MdM. Through their decision tree, MdM estimates the risk and take measures to mitigate it, if necessary.
